Abstract | This book of Italian-English phrases intended for Italian-speaking immigrants is divided into two main sections. Part One contains the grammatical section, a pronunciation guide, and basic words and phrases a newly arrived Italian-speaking person would need to get along in an English speaking environment. Grammatical notes in Part One indicate where to look in the grammar section should one want a more complete explanation of the construction of a phrase. Part Two contains words and phrases that would be necessary in specific situations, such as a visit to a doctor, transportation needs, school, etc. Each chapter in Part Two begins with general information on the material it covers. When more information is required than can be provided in this book, the reader is referred to an easily available source in which information is more detailed. There are some pen-and-ink drawings and diagrams to illustrate pronunciation patterns and some words and phrases. (Author/AMH) |
