| Abstract | Focusing on phases of college and other adult reading programs, the papers in this volume were drawn from the tenth annual meeting of the National Reading Conference held in 1960. Among the topics discussed in the 15 papers are the following: reading improvement in government, contributions of education to college and adult reading, the influence of psychology on the field of reading, reading and the language arts, freshman college English and the reading process, teaching machines and the reading program, measurement in reading, integration of reading instruction with regular college offerings, the relationship between interest and reading rate and between interest and reading comprehension, a portrait of college and adult readers in an urban area, research in reading at the University of Florida, and research on college and noncollege adult reading for the preceding year. The volume also contains an index to materials in the Auburn (Alabama) University reading laboratory, a bibliography for that facility, and a list of persons attending the conference. (FL) |
