AbstractA team of seven faculty members at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), provided training in career education for 300 teachers, counselors, and principals from schools throughout Tennessee. Six curriculum modules were developed, which included an introduction to career education and units on utilization of community resources, career education for the handicapped, infusion of career education into academic content, the counselor's role in career education, and the principal's role in career education. Four inservice workshops were conducted, three of which provided academic credit for participants. During the workshops for which credit was awarded, each school-based team developed a local implementation plan. The UTK faculty team provided follow-up assistance which included (1) a monthly newsletter containing infusion ideas; (2) lesson planning ideas and resource materials; (3) inservice programs for participating faculties; and (4) an annotated bibliography of commercial career education materials. Measurement instruments administered prior to and following instruction provided indications that the workshop presentations caused a significant increase in participants' general knowledge of career education concepts and positive attitudes toward career education. A preliminary follow-up of participants who had sufficient time to make use of their training revealed that all had made some use of plans developed during the workshop and that 22% had used their plans extensively.
