Abstract	The financial condition of traditionally black graduate schools is analyzed based on data from the report, "Maximizing Productivity in Thirty-Two Black Graduate Schools," prepared with federal support. In addition to the financial analysis, information is presented about the schools' history, purpose, mission, goals, students, faculty, programs, and plans. The following six financial health variables are discussed: views of graduate deans, faculty salaries, fellowships and assistantships, libraries, research and development, and revenues/expenditures. Summary data support the view that there is an apparent contradiction between the publicly-stated policy of increasing the number of minorities in graduate and professional education and the low level of funding at the institutions where large percentages of minorities are studying. Appendices provide: a list of black graduate schools; data on faculty salaries, race, educational background by degree obtained; student financial aid data, library expenditure data; and total revenues/expenditures data.
