AbstractData for this analysis of the reactions of animators (facilitators) and villagers to a series of Out of School Television (OSTV--Tele Pour Tous) broadcasts were collected through taped discussions with groups of villagers in their native dialects and separate interviews with animators. Designed to supplement data obtained through questionnaires, this study focused on those aspects of OSTV animation and impact which are difficult to assess through the written word, and obtained information directly from the villagers. Additional objectives included reinforcing ties created by the establishment of the observer network, providing field research experience for three Ivorian graduate students, verifying that reported decisions or actions had been taken as a result of OSTV programs, and determining if the water situation has improved since the showing of the program series on that topic. Animators and villagers identified several reasons for the wide gap between the two groups; however, the basic difficulty was seen to be that the primary teachers acting as animators are outsiders, frequently reluctant to involve themselves in village affairs, while the villagers consider development affairs to be village decisions and do not ask the teacher for advice. Topics suggested by villagers for future programs and the interview questionnaire for villagers are included. (BBM)
