Abstract | This K-12 music curriculum guide provides criteria for evaluating musical instructional programs and offers assistance to musical educators who wish to improve the content of their musical instructional programs. It is divided into three major parts, the first of which considers administrative implications and makes specific recommendations for each grade level, with organizational tables and musical accomplishments and experiences to be covered. The second part stresses the musical instructional program, covering general musical experiences in each grade, choral music experiences, allied arts, appreciation and history, music theory, instrumental experiences, and group keyboard experiences. The appendix presents information on a variety of topics including the function of professional organizations, special services available, certification of music teachers, preparation of the high school music student for college entrance, a statement of music education objectives, the Tanglewood Symposium Declaration, and sample lesson plans and teaching aids.
