| Abstract | Inductive teaching (leading learners to see a generalization for themselves) has the advantages of being effective in that students retain the knowledge longer than when it has been gained in other ways, of being fun because students are actively involved in the process, and of being a way to learn about language through generalizing principles. There are three basic approaches to inductive strategies: the experiential inductive approach, which classifies and verifies knowledge already possessed by students--with exceptions also being taught; the investigatory inductive approach, which groups and contrasts data students find in their own environment; and the prearranged data inductive approach, which depends on data collected by someone other than the students.
