AbstractThis technical manual is part of the "Focus on the Future" package which presents a group career guidance activity for secondary students designed to bring to light traditional biases and stereotyped attitudes about male and female roles and to create an awareness of how such attitudes may influence work expectations and future family relationships. The package also includes a leader's manual and eight picture stimulus sets which consist of indefinite sketches of women, men, and children engaged in a variety of work related and domestic activities. Attached to the sketches are student response sheets on which students write their reactions to the sketches for later discussion with the group. The technical manual gives the background of the development of the package. It includes sections on the sample population with whom the materials were field tested, data supporting the effectiveness of the materials, assessment of individual pictures, attitudes of the sample population as revealed in the picture response data, conclusions drawn from the field testing, and suggestions for using the materials. Numerous tables of data are included in the text. Appended are a field test assessment form for teachers and counselors, a questionnaire for students, and leader comment forms. (LMS)
