Abstract | A guide to resources in adult education is presented in two sections: a "pathfinder" and an annotated bibliography. In section 1 a scope note defines adult education and provides a brief history of adult education in the U.S. Subsequently, a number of "pathfinder" references are listed: introductory adult education materials (3); card catalog subject headings for the Walter Library (4) and the Library of Congress (17); frequently mentioned texts (11); adult education material call numbers (10); guides, encyclopedias, and dictionaries (5); bibliographies (5); data bases and related materials (5); "Current Index to Journals in Education" subject headings (16), "Education Index" subject headings (29), and "Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature" subject headings (12); other field-related indexes (2); journals often containing adult education articles (9); newsletters (13); adult education associations (9); and audiovisual materials (4). Section 2 contains an annotated bibliography for the following sources: books--general works (5); bibliographies (6); and data bases (6). Also reviewed are works of different foci: historical (3); philosophical (4); psychological (6); developmental (13); program development (34); and futures (9). Finally, periodical indexes (6); journals (10), and audiovisual materials (24) are annotated. (CSS) |
