Abstract | This 1978 update supplements the "Master Plan for Postsecondary Education in Hawaii" by presenting information on the following types of institutions that offer instruction in Hawaii: out-of-state degree-granting institutions; trade, technical, and vocational schools; and correspondence schools with agents licensed by the state. There is also a description of the state's licensing/approving agencies: the Department of Regulatory Agencies which licenses degree-granting institutions; the Department of Education which licenses trade, technical, and vocational schools and the agents of correspondence schools; and the State Approving Agency for Veteran Training. Institutions were asked to provide data on their programs, enrollments, tuition, and staffing; to discuss plans for significant changes; and to define problems in their areas of postsecondary education. Research findings and recommendations in the areas of diversity, quality, access, financing, and coordination of postsecondary education institutions are also outlined. Appendices contain a list of commission members, college fact sheet forms, responses by various institutions, and a brief review of the literature on accreditation and state licensing. (Author/MB) |
