Abstract | This document is comprised of the hearing and briefing on International Women's issues before the Subcommittees on International Organizations and International Development of the Committee on International Relations, House of Representatives, 95th Congress. The purpose of the joint session was to explore the administration's request for the United Nations Decade for women, and to investigate the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) request for women in development. An additional purpose was to gain a better understanding of the reasons why it is important to consider the situation of women in relation to international human rights and to multilateral and bilateral international development efforts. Testimony from administration representatives and public witnesses focuses upon such issues as women in decision-making positions in the U.N. Secretariat, the division of male/female employees in the Policy Planning Office at AID, the situation of women in development, and other aspects of the U.N. Decade for Women. (KA) |
