AbstractThe purpose of this project was to develop innovative agricultural education programs within the comprehensive high school setting in selected school districts in Mississippi. The following programs were implemented: horticulture (Starkville Vocational Center); vocational forestry (Lamar County); agricultural suppliers and services program (Alcorn County Vocational Center); wildlife-forestry (Winston-Louisville Vocational Technical Complex); and specialized programs in crops and livestock (Covington County). The main emphasis during the period July 1, 1977 to June 30, 1978 (reported here) was on (1) development of public relations materials, (2) curriculum planning, (3) organization and development of Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters, (4) development of adult education programs in agriculture, (5) improving FFA programs, (6) instituting effective recruitment programs for vocational agriculture/agribusiness, and (7) improving supervised occupational experience programs. No major problems were encountered during the development of the project. Project-related materials were made available to all teachers. Other project information was disseminated through workshops and meetings. The project was evaluated by both the project staff and the participants. (Appendixes comprise a major portion of this document and include a list of instructional materials distributed to teachers; script of sound/slide presentation, "Today's Vocational Agriculture"; evaluation forms; and other related materials.)
