AbstractThis periodical contains special reports, reviews, and notes of recent documents on education in Asia and Oceania. The first special report, "Education in the People's Republic of China," describes that country's task of educating millions of laborers to have a socialist consciousness, to master modern production skills, and to become specialists in various fields. Guidelines and goals for the ten-year program designed to resolve the present discordance between education and the needs of the socialist revolution are outlined. The second, brief report features innovations in higher education in Japan. Eleven reviews of recent studies comprise the bulk of the document. These reviews include descriptions of educational attainment in Asian primary schools; educational innovation for rural development in the Philippines; education, employment, and migration in Papua, New Guinea; and youth development in the Republic of Korea. "Non-Formal Education for Women in India" describes work which has been done in the integrated approach to the fields of functional literacy, maternal and child health, and nutrition and family planning. "Non-Formal Education in Indonesia" discusses vocational skills training, family life education, basic education, and the village credit bank. The "Notes" section describes numerous major publications of the Educational Documentation and Information Services of the Unesco Regional Office. These documents include reports on Bangkok, Singapore, Bangladesh, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Sources of documents with addresses are included. (KC)
