Abstract | Papers in this document provide a perspective on the views of two-year college educators and other educational leaders on the relevance and place of international education now and in the future. Edmund J. Gleazer, Jr., discusses the community college's role in international education and outlines the policy of the American Association of Community and Junior Colleges as well as reviewing the activities of other organizations including the Council on International Cooperation in Higher Education and the International Council on Adult Education. Moses S. Koch presents rationales and models for internationalizing the college curriculum. Seymour Eskow outlines the educational benefits of sending students and faculty abroad in terms of increasing understanding among peoples of the world and involving individuals in participant and observer relationships. Fred H. Harrington emphasizes the need for community colleges to increase their involvement in providing technical assistance services abroad. Daniel R. McLaughlin describes the cooperative relationship between Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield, Connecticut, and Chien-Hsien Junior College of Technology in Chungli, Taiwan, Republic of China. The recommendations of the 1978 Wingspread Assembly and a list of participants are included. (MB) |
