AbstractThe present project was designed to continue the preparation of a course of study useful for developing secondary level bookkeeping/accounting instruction. The course of study is intended to (1) derive vocational instruction for students with varying career goals, (2) develop accounting-oriented career exploration units for Introduction to Vocations classes or conceptually similar career awareness activities, (3) develop an awareness of the functions and operations of business, (4) evaluate instruction, and (5) orient college accounting instruction designed to prepare secondary level bookkeeping/accounting instructors. The project outcomes include a bookkeeping/accounting course of study with the content arranged under the following chapter headings: Chapter 1--Accounting in the Secondary School; Chapter 2--Accounting Careers; Chapter 3--Accounting Content; Chapter 4--Organization, Resources and Methods; and Chapter 5--Evaluation. It is anticipated that the course of study will be used by teachers, teacher educators, curriculum planners, and others charged with the development of accounting instruction for young people with varying career goals.
