| Abstract | A survey conducted among educators in the state of Georgia sought to verify the generic qualities of a set of teacher competency statements claimed to be essential for teachers, regardless of subject or level. The results of the survey are presented in this report which is organized into the following six chapter subjects: (1) introductory overview of purpose, organization, and procedure of the survey; (2) lists of generic teacher competencies and how they were obtained; (3) the survey instrument and how it was developed; (4) how the survey sample was selected and the conditions under which the survey instrument was administered to that sample; (5) findings; and (6) conclusions and inferences drawn from the survey. It is inferred from the responses of the participants in this study that there are particular teacher competencies that may be considered to be generic in that they are consistently rated either "essential" or "highly desirable" to effective teacher performance by professional educators from a variety of teaching specialties.
