Abstract	Narrative and tabular data, maps, and photographs comprise this annual report for fiscal 1977 on the Appalachian Regional Commission. Among highlights reported for the year were: completion of half the mileage in the Appalachian Development Highway system, further reducing inhabitants' isolation from jobs, schools, and markets; continued reversal of outmigration; establishment of demonstration projects in enterprise development to help develop energy resources, and continuation of important regional energy-information gathering; encouragement of public service and housing programs, particularly in communities impacted by increased energy production (including a demonstration project on home wastewater treatment systems); continuation of human service projects -- health care centers, educational facilities, child development programs; adoption of an areawide action program of needs, priorities, funding sources, and long-range strategies; and lobbying by Appalachian governors for changes in reimbursement for care by physician extenders in rural clinics. The report has sections on growth (transportation, housing, community development, enterprise development); human services (health, education, child development); energy, environment, and natural resources; local development districts; research and evaluation; and finances. Appendices give project totals by state and list local development districts. (RS)
