Abstract | In this appendix to the Content Area Reading Project report, a large variety of materials is presented for use in the content component of the project. Among the materials are the following: a bibliography of professional materials on content reading; an annotated bibliography of junior high school materials for reading development in ten content areas; a list of materials useful in developing practical adult literacy in five areas; instructions for developing case studies; directions for administering group reading inventories; sample informal reading inventories; sample grouping plans; study guides for helping teachers learn about black language and about language and culture; examples of enabling and inhibiting teacher statements; a self directed behavior rating scale; suggestions for using the language experience approach with older students; a sample social studies unit about Mexico, with detailed lists of objectives and sample activities; instructions for constructing an individualized learning activity package; materials for teaching reference skills, map skills, and reading skills; sample cloze tests; and vocabulary guidesheets and exercises.
