| Abstract | This paper points out that the assignment of individuals to serve sub-units of an organization is one of the significant problems which must be faced by administrators and supervisors of school psychology and school social work services. It then describes the development and implementation of a simple weighted proportion procedure for estimating relative need among various sub-units of an organization, in this case, attendance areas within the school district. The procedure begins with the identification, collection, and weighting of descriptive data judged to best represent need or demand for services. The procedure yields proportions and percentages for each sub-unit which can be used to distribute professionals' allocations. It shows how use of this procedure can reduce the amount and severity of political bickering over which unit has the most need under what circumstances, and thus requires more services at the expense of some other unit. The paper ends by suggesting other contexts to which the procedure might be generalized. (Author) |
