AbstractA pilot survey was conducted of employers of 300 former students trained in preparatory career education programs in Iowa. The completed questionnaires were analyzed by education program, school, and merged area. The data from the survey indicated that employers were generally pleased with the abilities of the employees when first hired. Over two-thirds of the employees were evaluated to have "very good" or "good" job skills and technical knowledge; however, the employers indicated that they would like these employees to have had more technical training. In addition, the data revealed that employers were generally satisfied with the quality and quantity of the employees' work. Job skills, technical knowledge, work attendance, punctuality, and compliance were perceived to be satisfactory. Employers showed concern with the employees' willingness to accept responsibility and their need for supervision. The great majority of employees were perceived to be cooperative with both co-workers and management.
