| Abstract | The purpose of this study, conducted in 1976, was to update and extend the 1974 survey entitled "Student Use of Open University Broadcasting" or the Bates Report. It was also intended to assist broadcast policy and planning decisions and to furnish individual course teams with summative evaluation data on student use of broadcasting. The report is divided into three major sections: (1) design of the survey including the sample, the questionnaire, and analysis and interpretation; (2) survey results including availability of audiovisual equipment, use of open forum broadcasts, viewing and listening on individual courses, and student views on the need for program repeats; and (3) factors affecting the use of broadcasting.
