| Abstract | As the third in a series of annual reports on the graduates of Virginia community colleges, this document contains information for the years 1973-74, 1974-75, and 1975-76 on racial distribution by sex, types of awards, and curricular groups; on sex by race, awards, and curricular groups; on age by awards and curriculum; on distribution by curricula; and on credits earned by award type and number of years taken to complete the award. During 1975-76, 6,709 students graduated, an increase of 11% over the previous year and 28% over 1973-74. Fifty-six percent were males, racial minorities comprised 15%, and the median age was 24.4 years. Women and minority graduates increased five and two percent respectively over the study period. More than 50% earned Associate of Applied Science degrees in equal proportions for men and women, although more men overall earned diplomas while women opted for certificates. Proportionately more whites than minority students pursued college transfer programs. Throughout the three years, more minority and especially minority women graduates chose programs for quick entry into the job market. Business was the most commonly selected curriculum, followed by engineering and industrial, health, and public service. Thirteen data tables are appended. (TR) |
