Abstract | The purpose of this monograph is to review the state of the art and to supply a framework for the further investigation and development of cooperative arrangements for international programming between senior institutions and community colleges. The first chapter, "The Growing National Interest in International Understanding," reviews relevant federal legislation and the activities of educational organizations supporting international understanding. "Community College Linkage to Adult Learners" discusses adult, community service, and community-based education as means for providing large groups of adults with citizen education for international understanding. "Current Status of International Programming in Community Colleges" reviews the great variety of international/intercultural programs in operation. "Articulation of Community College and University Mutual Interests" examines various means for interchange between universities and junior colleges, including the Junior College Leadership Program, the Council of Universities and Colleges, advisory councils, university-trained community college administrators, and state coordination. "Needed: A Stronger Community College and University Commitment to Action" suggests how administrative, faculty, and instructional commitments can be encouraged, as well as university commitment to cooperation.
