Abstract | This report reviews activities of the first year's work of a project whose purpose was to provide information which will assist the Philadelphia School District in making plans for educational programs, staff, and facilities in response to impending changes in occupational job requirements in the Philadelphia area and changes in student needs and desires. Three major parts are included: (1) a study of future job requirements in the occupational structure of the Philadelphia area; (2) a study of students' needs, aspirations, and perceptions of the labor market based on a survey of eighth and ninth grade students from the Philadelphia School District; and (3) an integration of the first and second parts into a planning instrument, with the basic structure of a mathematical decision model reviewed and its role in educational management indicated. An appendix contains an alphabetical index of occupations and codes, Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts of labor requirements to 1985 by socioeconomic groups, forecasts of labor requirements to 1985 by Philadelphia school district clusters, and the survey questionnaire for eighth and ninth grade students.
