| Abstract | Sixty-four regionally accredited colleges and universities in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska were surveyed to determine what practices existed in the evaluation of their administrators and to ascertain the basis upon which the evaluations were performed. Of the 51 responding institutions, 22 were two-year colleges and 29 were four-year colleges and universities, 35 were public and 16 were private. Findings indicated that 23% of the two-year and 54% of the four-year institutions responding had no institution-wide evaluation process for non-teaching professional personnel. Respondents from both groups agreed that factors related to goals and objectives as a measure of performance and involvement by the individual in establishing objectives were highly important. Meeting goals and objectives as the only focus for evaluation was the lowest rated factor by both groups. It was concluded that two-year colleges were more accountable regarding the evaluation of their administrators, that slightly over one-half of the institutions having an evaluation process for non-teaching professionals were concerned with its effectiveness, and that the majority of colleges not having an evaluation process did not seem committed to initiating one.
