Abstract | Data from the annual Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS) on associate degrees and other formal awards below the baccalaureate level in institutions of higher education in the United States are presented. Completions of organized occupational curriculums in a variety of technologies normally offered in two-year collegiate programs designed to prepare students for immediate employment in a specific occupation or cluster of occupations are emphasized. Survey purpose, organization and methodology are discussed with two supplemental tables providing comparative data for the years 1970/71-1974/75. The bulk of the document is taken up by thirteen detailed tables displaying the data by length of curriculum, type of credit (creditable or not creditable toward a bachelor's degree), institutional control and type, sex of recipient, state, type of curriculum (arts and science or general programs, science- or engineering-related occupational programs, nonscience- and nonengineering-related occupational programs), discipline division and specialty. Appendices present seven of the thirteen tables aggregated on a different methodology as well as a reproduction of part of the survey form. (Author/LH) |
