Abstract | This 1976 study presents an update of a 1971 assessment of Illinois Area Vocational Centers (AVCs). The following topics are discussed in sections of this report: (1) methodology of the study which included meetings with an advisory committee of AVC directors, interviews at each of twenty-nine operating AVCs, distribution of 2,000 of eleven different types, gathering of data from state sources and interviews, and interviews of AVC authorities in five other states; (2) history, analysis, and future expectations of state administrative policy regarding AVCs; (3) description of factors which have led to the diverse educational capabilities and financial situations of AVCs; (4) conclusions drawn from data gathered for the study including those relating to state and local funding policies, state laws and guidelines, AVC administration and organization, other providers of vocational education, meeting manpower needs, other secondary vocational institutions, and general policies; and (5) recommendations directed to state and local authorities based on the conclusions. Numerous figures and tables of statistical data are interspersed throughout the report. (BL) |
