Abstract | One of 10 publications from a long-range vocational education planning project, this report presents the results of exploring the feasibility and need for a doctoral program in education planning. Three models were developed: (1) The first is based on a competency approach, designed to use those professional experiences that would help bring the candidate from a known level of competency to a needed level of competency, (2) the second follows the traditional approach, requiring a major, a cognate, a minor, and a research competency, culminating in a dissertation, (3) the third follows the overall outline of the second but the major and minor would come from specific departments, and a computer skill area would also be required. A complete description of the University of Toronto's degree requirements in the field of planning and the corresponding program of study are appended. Course descriptions of vocational education planning courses offered at Michigan State University are also appended. (BL) |
