AbstractThis set of Child Development Associate (CDA) instructional materials covers the six CDA competency areas, in individual volumes: (1) Setting Up and Maintaining a Safe and Healthy Learning Environment, (including information on indoor and outdoor space, equipment, and play), (2) Advancing Physical and Intellectual Competence in Young Children (including units on structured and unstructured materials, symbolic and dramatic play, exploration and questioning, language use, environmental understanding and physical activities), (3) Building Positive Self-Concept and Individual Strength in Young Children, (4) Promoting Positive Functioning of Children and Adults in a Group Environment, (5) Coordinating Home and Center Child-Rearing Practices and Expectations, and (6) Carrying Out Supplementary Responsibilities Related to the Children's Programs (discussions of recordkeeping, scheduling, planning and other administrative duties). Developed for persons seeking the CDA credential (available to qualified personnel in child care centers) and designed for use in a formal training program at a college or other institution, these materials may also be useful to persons working individually with a teacher or center director, and to parents as well. Each book's competency area is divided into modular instructional units; each module includes a list of additional resources. (BF)
