| Abstract | A comparative analysis of six UNISIST short training courses was conducted as a basis for recommendations to the UNISIST Steering Committee in regard to future strategies for their education and training programs. Information that emerged from the course evaluations, which varied considerably in comprehensiveness and objectivity, was analyzed. Components and characteristics of the six courses are described with comments about specific courses appearing under each topic. Findings indicate that the factors that make a training course successful are: (1) sound administrative organization and planning; (2) physical environment conducive to teaching and learning; (3) appropriate supportive educational resources; (4) homogeneous student participants who have the necessary occupational background and experience; and (5) adequate preparation time for participants before the courses begin. Based upon the conclusions, recommendations for future programs and matters for further consideration by the UNISIST Ad Hoc committee are presented. A suggested application form, table outlining the characteristics of each course, and a summary of the evaluation method conducted for each course are appended. (JPF) |
