Abstract | The units contained in this guide are intended primarily as resource materials to assist middle school teachers in identifying units into which career awareness concepts can be infused and also in identifying instructional activities that correlate basic skills and career education objectives. Introductory information includes a definition of career education and an outline of goals for middle school career awareness. There are 8 units relating to mathematics, 9 science-related units, 19 units relating to social studies, 2 units relating to language arts, and 1 unit relating to health and physical education. Each unit contains the following: An overview, content outline, unit objectives, and unit description, which provides criterion referenced objectives, learning activities, and a list of materials. Materials listed are teacher references, children's books, study prints, kits, films, filmstrips, records and songs, and classroom materials and equipment used in the activities. Additional evaluation suggestions are included for some units. Units are listed according to career clusters, and a list of unit authors and their schools concludes the guide. (TA) |
