Abstract | Seventeen articles about environmental education teaching in Britain are contained in this publication. Several case studies describe interdisciplinary approaches which are potential growing points for curriculum development. The book is arranged in three sections. After defining environmental education, the first section reviews objectives for environmental education. The second section contains ten articles offering insights into environmental curricula in school and higher education. Subjects explored in the various chapters include establishing environmental education in secondary schools, education for the conservation of natural resources, historical conservation education, urban studies, community studies, architecture in environmental education, design education, third world studies and the environment, planning studies, environmental sciences, and human ecology. The final section reviews advances made toward developing environmental education curricula in other countries. Discussion questions and a list of useful addresses conclude the book. (Author/JR) |
