Abstract | Included in this student workbook for basic cake decorating are the following: (1) Drawings of steps in a basic way to ice a layer cake, how to make a paper cone, various sizes of flower nails, various sizes and types of tin pastry tubes, and special rose tubes; (2) recipes for basic decorating icings (buttercream, rose paste, and royal icing); (3) 66 pages (work sheets or practice plates) designed to be used as guides for students to practice lines (horizontal straight, vertical straight, left slant, right slant, left circular, right circular, top circular, bottom circular, and scalloped) and letters (capital letters in print and fancy capital and script small letters); (4) diagrams showing steps in making leaves and some flowers, including roses; (5) instructions for making and using primary and secondary colors; and (6) 15 work sheets (practice plates) with assignments for decorating the tops of seven layer cakes and seven half sheet cakes. (Work sheets for lines, letters, and cake tops are designed for use with clear plastic sheets which are to be laid over the work sheet so that students may do the practice decorating on the plastic sheet.)
