Abstract | Calling for an international educational policy that would relate all education to the rural world and agriculture, this book is directed toward the developing nations and maintains: all citizens must be made aware of the importance of agriculture in the process of socioeconomic development; rural subjects should be included in education in general to enable everyone to have a comprehensive picture of the area in which he lives; education should be placed foremost in the service of democracy, which demands participation in the decision making process; the distinction between "general" and "technical" education must be replaced by a scientific/technical humanism stressing the value of workers, particularly agricultural workers; the educational system must provide mobility on the vertical and horizontal planes as well as offer a wider range of options; education should become a lifelong process. Chapters are titled and subtitled as follows: (1) Development and Education (growth, progress and development and societies and educational systems); (2) Integration of the Rural World into the Process of Development (agriculture and development and the creation-dissemination system in agriculture); (3) Integration of the Rural World into the Over-All Educational System (basic principles of the educational system; specific forms of rural and agricultural educational and integration problems, and introduction to the programming of rural and agricultural education).
