Abstract | This report contains informal material as well as brief research reports of Center activities. The concept of the Center is that it serves as a pilot project to be replicated throughout the state to raise the level of individual functioning of old people to the highest level possible. It is intended that the educational as well as social aspect of the Center will provide a fundamental departure from the traditional role expected of the retiree. Over 2000 participants engage in Center activities; however, Japanese, Chinese and Hawaiian ethnic background persons predominate with an underrepresentation of part-Hawaiian, Filipino and Caucasian persons within the target area. Research conducted at the Center is being carried on by University personnel to study the relationship of visual acuity to judgement (65 and over), as well as health screening and exercise programs. Abstracts are appended. (SBP) |
