Abstract | This paper is a discussion of several of the short-term, intensive field practica experiences which have been integrated into the Memorial University graduate counselor education program. The approach in counselor education provides needed counseling services to more remote communities, enables school boards to see counselors in action, thus providing encouragement for initiating or expanding counseling services, provides valuable working links between university and schools, and serves as an integrative and solidifying guidance experience to students while still in the program. The paper discusses objectives of these short-term practica, procedures and planning, the role that these experiences play in a counselor education program, and an evaluation of the program.
