Abstract | This report focuses on what is known about the development and control of human behavior that is relevant to school teachers. It examines and summarizes several approaches to behavior management--behavior modification, group dynamics, Glasser's reality therapy approach, the Adlerian approach espoused by Dreikurs, Kohlberg's theory of moral development, and learning theory. The actual and ideal involvement of students and teachers in decision-making is explored and the relationship between teachers' attributes and classroom management is discussed. The report is based on published materials and is relevant at the elementary and secondary levels. It is supplemented by a report on a survey of local elementary school teachers' opinions of and attitudes toward classroom management and related issues. (Author/IRT) |
