Abstract | This report presents estimated statistics on federally aided programs administered by local education agencies (LEAs) during the 1972-73 regular school term and the 1973 summer school term. Based on a nationally representative sample of 1,016 LEAs, estimates have been made for numbers of participants and staff members, expenditures, and supplemental program information. The focus of the survey is on federally aided programs that are conducted within school districts and on the pupil population groups that these programs are intended to serve. The eight pupil population groups on which data have been collected are children from low-income areas; handicapped children; children from limited- or non-English speaking environments; children of migratory workers; neglected or delinquent children; dropouts, potential dropouts, and former dropouts; adults; and the general elementary/secondary population.
