| Abstract | The report evaluates a K-14 career education exemplary project in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, for the year 1974-75. It was concluded that the evaluation findings were not valid measures for the effectiveness of the program because the time constraints did not allow for a pretest/posttest design. Student performance was measured against norms or in comparison with mean scores of students from the previous school year. The following are selected outcomes from available data: (1) 64 teachers, counselors, and administrators participated in college credit career education courses; (2) samples of elementary students in two schools had higher scores on the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory than students the previous year; (3) the mean score of a sample of elementary students was 16% below the mean of the standardization sample on the career education questionnaire; (4) mean scores of samples of eighth and twelfth grade students on the career maturity inventory were lower in most areas in 1974-75 than in 1973-74; (5) baseline data on placement were established by a thorough followup study. Evaluation design summary charts are contained in the appendix, along with a list of the standardized instruments, and a copy of a locally-developed instrument. (Author/NJ) |
