AbstractThe document consists of three symposium addresses, pertaining to the provision and use of career information systems. Gerald C. Smith, Department of Labor, opened the symposium with an address on "Occupational Information systems: Uses, Developments, and Issues", which focused on career information systems currently being developed by the Department of Labor. David V. Tiedeman, Director, ERIC Clearinghouse in Career Education, in a presentation on "The In-Forming of Career: A Structure and Its Operational Needs" presented several computer-involved interactive guidance systems as well as suggestions to the Departments of Labor and Health, Education, and Welfare to assist these developments in becoming self-supporting. Barry E. Stern, Department of health, Education, and Welfare, spoke on "Evaluators' Logic vs. Common Sense: or What Would Thomas Paine Have Said About the Development of Career Information systems?", which raised issues about evaluation and policy-making in the development and support of computer-involved career guidance systems and places special emphasis on the needs of the consumer of the information.
