Abstract | Volume 3 of a four volume collection, this document addresses the extent and the depth of public support in America for domestic social welfare programs and the social, moral, and economic attitudes of the poor and near poor. Specifically, three major sections focus on: the national morale and support for domestic reform; attitudes toward welfare, poverty, and government programs; and attitudes of the poor and near poor. Problems considered in the attitudes toward welfare, are war, inflation, and crime, while issues addressed in the attitudes of the poor and near poor include political views (liberal/conservative), confidence in leaders of key U.S. institutions, anomie, happiness and satisfaction, work, financial situation, social issues, and sexual morality. Two appendices containing the NORC General Social Surveys, 1973-1974 and public opinion data sources and collection are included. (Author/AM) |
