Abstract | This study seeks to determine whether there are syntactic differences in the ways in which field dependent and field independent individuals write, and to determine whether these differences can account for the differences in interpersonal evaluations. One hundred sixty-five subjects were selected for this study by randomly selecting classes from the 1975 Speech Communication Department list of offerings, from three lower division theater department courses, and from a summer mathematics seminar for high school students. The data produced by the subjects employed in this study was examined by the Syntactic Language Computer Analysis II (SLCA II). The results of the study were inconclusive, but the analysis produced some unexpected findings. These findings point to the need for more research. (An extensive discussion of the data is presented and the data is also presented in table format.) (RB) |
