Abstract | The manual on residential farmer training provides guidance to the extension staff of all agencies concerned with rural development, with special reference to the principals and teaching staffs of training centers, and the informational and training needs of the smaller farmer. The manual was prepared as a result of recommendations made by participants at national seminars and workshops held in the following nine countries in east-central and southern Africa: Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Swaziland, LeSotho, and Botswana. It deals mostly with residential farmer training, although some reference is made to day centers and nonresidential training. Some of the topics dealt with include physical facilities, staffing, recruitment, program planning, courses of instruction, and evaluation. Information about residential farmer training operating in the nine above-mentioned African countries is appended. A comprehensive bibliography is also included. (Author/NJ) |
