Abstract | Thirty-one Minnesota public libraries were studied to determine the best use of state funds to promote library development. The overall objective of this study was to determine the most effective organizational structure, appropriate standards of operation, and a program of financial support for public libraries in Minnesota. An analysis was made of current costs of library services, and with these costs as a basis, models were developed and estimates made for raising the current levels of service. Public library services were divided into three areas of study: provision of materials, information and services, and administrative and support services. Recommendations for the attainment of future needs and a plan for action were submitted. Statistical tables are appended. (DS) |
