Abstract | The Training and Technology (TAT) Welding Technology Training Program is an intensive industrial training program conducted by Oak Ridge Associated Universities and Union Carbide Corporation designed to upgrade the skills of unemployed and underemployed individuals so they can command good jobs in industry. The document provides an introduction and an overview of the TAT welder training program. Described in detail are the curriculum, teaching methods, and philosophy of the training program. The program training takes 1,040 hours, or 6 months and 40 hours a week. It covers three major areas: welding lab, General Educational Development (GED)--High School Equivalency--and industrial behavior within an industrial setting. Trainees are introduced to gas welding and, on completion of the course, graduates are certifiable in plate and pipe electric arc welding.
