Abstract"Language and International Studies" is the theme of the 20 papers which appear in this volume and which were presented at the 24th annual Round Table meeting held in March 1973. In addition, the paper of one absent panelist, Wolfgang Kuhlwein, is included. The first panel, consisting of Kuhlwein, Leopold Engels, James Harris, Terence Langendoen, John Lawler, and Winfred Lehmann focused on linguistic, social, and practical considerations in foreign language instruction. Curriculum design and classroom implementation were discussed by Emma Birkmaier, Carlton Hodge, Wilga Rivers, Earl Stevick, and Charles Townsend in the second session. Panel 3, composed of Harold Bradley, John Carroll, James Collins, Vera Rubin, and Warren Tsuneishi, examined practical implications of foreign language learning for the student. The final group--Jane Alden, Jermaine Arendt, Harold Cannon, Gerhard Nickel, and Richard Thompson--offered their evaluations of foreign language programs from the point of view of the private and public agencies which they represent. The reports of the interest group sessions appear in an appendix. (SB/AM)
