AbstractThe book is intended by the authors to be used as a text for a college-level course in career development; their suggestion is that the course be offered in the first year, especially in schools operating a program of cooperative education, and that the course cover the general theory of career development, the preparation of a resume to be kept updated, and an introduction to academic and occupational information. Essentially, the text is an attempt to reconcile many previous theories into a currently applicable theory of career planning and development. A new, condensed edition, the text reflects the accepted fact of rapid change in our industrial, commercial, and governmental activities by stressing the principle that an effective approach to career development must allow for change as a constant. The section on occupational information has been compressed into a kind of outline survey which will permit frequent updating. The first two sections of the book, dealing with career theory and with areas of opportunity, are comprised of two chapters each; the third, longest section deals with techniques for career implementation, including resumes and letters, interviews, and career adjustment. Appended materials offer information on job satisfaction, tests and testing, and salaries. (AJ)
