AbstractThis study concerns career choices and patterns of men and women who chose the fields of science, mathematics or teaching as an occupation. The data for the study came from the Project TALENT Data Bank and include students from grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 during the 1960 school year when the initial data were collected. The first two chapters present an analysis of the factors which influence career choice and the relationship of these variables to different career groups. Twenty-two predictor variables are related to occupational grouping and the differences among these variables are examined. The remaining three chapters present the career pattern data for selected occupational groups, following career decisions from high school through a one-year follow-up; five-year follow-up; and for the twelfth-grade students, an eleven-year follow-up. Three different ways of examining the data are presented: Chapter Three presents the total raw data by grade, sex and occupational group; Chapter Four is an examination of career group composition; and Chapter Five uses a follow forward technique to examine career stability.
