| Abstract | A curriculum guide for the San Diego Unified School District is designed for secondary teachers interested in implementing a legal education program. Objectives are not only to acquaint, but also to help average students understand legal matters that will concern them for the rest of their lives. Suggested teaching activities encourage student participation in discussions, group study, panels, simulations, mock trials, research projects, and presentations. Units of study include the legal system, how the system works, the processes of criminal justice, and the processes of civil law. The guide, structured around a six-column, two-page format, includes sample instructional objectives, inquiry questions, materials and resources, strategies and activities, evaluation, and comments for each unit. Teachers are urged, however, to develop individual objectives and strategies suitable to their own circumstances. A listing of available support materials, resource organizations, and bibliographic references for both student and teacher is included. (JR) |
