Abstract | The document describes a plan for vocational followup and evaluation, including details of procedures and samples, for three basic uses: to evaluate vocational programs offered at the time the study is made; to determine if new vocational programs may be needed and, if so, when they are needed; and to evaluate the overall effectiveness of school guidance programs. The document describes the four basic procedures of the followup system: conditioning of students to understand the purpose of the followup and encourage responses, collecting information, followup mailings, and the preparation of final reports. Questions which can be answered by a followup study are listed along with uses of the data generated. Procedures currently used in a computer model developed as a systems approach to followup are described. Elements include: collecting and recording information, maintaining the information, using the information, and results achieved from the computerized system. More than half of the document is devoted to appendixes, including: memos, instructions for completing computer data forms, sample forms, computer codes, and sample school letters to former students.
